I started quilting in the late 1980’s before the rotary cutter and strip piecing revolutionized quilting. In my first quilting class, we learned to draw around a cardboard template, and cut pieces out with scissors! I hand pieced and hand quilted for years.
What I love about this business is the opportunity to help the quiltmaker complete their vision of the quilt. Whether it is a hand appliqued Baltimore Album quilt or a modern masterpiece with the newest and brightest fabrics from innovative designers.
My goal is to help you create the quilt that you envision. The quilting is there to hold the three layers together, it should enhance the top, not take over and stand out. Quilting in the right design can highlight the piecing or add all over texture and movement. It can subtly help shift the focus from one part of the quilt to another. Dense quilting pushes the fabric down into the background. Outlining and extra batting techniques will bring other motifs to the foreground.
My personal style of quilting tends toward the traditional, with a modern twist. I love all types of feathers, crosshatching, and stitch-in-the-ditch. I use a variety of threads so the quilting can blend in or stand out as needed.
I look forward to helping you complete your quilting project.
